Dominican Republic Both Costa Rica and Mexico continued their winning ways at the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic with victories in Group B on Saturday at the Estadio Panamericano in Santo Domingo.

The day started with Costa Rica posting a 3-1 victory over host nation Dominican Republic to give the Ticas six points in the table.

After notching a hat trick in the team’s opener, Sheika Scott got things going again for Costa Rica with the opening goal in the 45+1’.

Jimena Jimenez then doubled the lead 2-0 in the 59’, followed by another big moment in the 64’ when Paola Then of the Dominican Republic was sent off.

Costa Rica took advantage, with Veronica Matarrita making it 3-0 in the 77’.

The Dominican Republic refused to give up though, and pulled a goal back in second half stoppage time through Renata Mercedes, but the spoils belonged to Costa Rica in the end in a 3-1 final.

Mexico and Puerto Rico were next to take the field and it was another victorious outing for Mexico, 4-0.

Mexico enjoyed another strong start and held a 3-0 lead at halftime after first half scores from Fatima Servin in the 18’, Maribel Flores in the 38’ and Valerie Vargas in the 45+4’.

Puerto Rico looked to regroup in the second half and kept the Mexican attack at bay, but Mexico’s defense was equally strong. Finally, in second half stoppage time, Mexico nailed down the three points with a goal from Hailey Gordon to complete the 4-0 scoreline.

On Sunday the teams in Group A will be back in action at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, as Canada take on Panama, while the United States meet Jamaica.

Canada were 4-0 winners versus Jamaica in their debut, while the U.S. topped Panama 6-0.
