Jonas Wind has slipped down the pecking order since Ralph Hasenhüttl took over as Wolfsburg coach in March 2024, with a report in Sport Bild recently suggesting that the striker could be on his way out in January.
And speaking after Wednesday's 3-0 DFB-Pokal win over Hoffenheim, in which he scored, provided an assist and was named Man of the Match, Wind didn't hide the fact that he's not happy with his current situation.
"This is a difficult moment for me. I want to play from the start and I'm not happy sitting on the bench," Wind told German television after the game.
"This is my situation at Wolfsburg. I train well every day and wait for my chance.
“My focus is on playing football, and at the moment I'm a Wolfsburg player. We'll see what happens in January.”
Wind's words weren't met with anger from his coach, but with understanding.
"I know this from my own experience. He doesn't have to be satisfied when he comes off the bench, I don't demand that and I never have," Ralph Hasenhüttl said.
