Chelsea will reportedly offer Willy Caballero a 12-month contract extension after the professional way in which he dealt with the Kepa scandal last week.
There’s only one sticking point though, and that is down to whether the Blues can fill their Home-Grown Player Quota for next season.
The Chelsea hierarchy have been impressed with the 37-year-old and the way he responded following Kepa’s refusal to be substituted during last Sunday’s EFL Cup final.
The veteran Argentine is seen as a model pro around the club and will be offered a year’s extension come the end of the season.
But first Chelsea must make sure they can fulfil the Premier League’s requirements when it comes to Home-Grown Players.
With Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses and Gary Cahill all due to leave Stamford Bridge, Maurizio Sarri’s side would usually fill one of those British-born spots with a goalkeeper.
However should they fill their quota then Caballero will be rewarded with an extension.
