Willem II will have to do without striker Kyan Vaesen in the last weeks of 2024. The 23-year-old Belgian is undergoing laparoscopy after struggling with knee problems for some time, the Tilburg club announced on Wednesday morning.
Vaesen has opted or ‘a minor procedure’. According to the striker: “Unfortunately, I can no longer play this calendar year, because I have been having problems with my knee for several weeks. With this operation, I hope to be fit again after the winter break and to be of value to the club.”
Vaesen, who is on loan from Belgian club Westerlo this season, started well for the red-white-blue Brabanders, with three goals in his first five matches for Willem II. In recent weeks, his production has been underwhelming in contrast, with only one goal in nine league matches. Last weekend, he was absent from coach Peter Maes’ selection, when they lost 1-2 to sc Heerenveen.
With four goals, Vaesen is Willem II’s joint top scorer this season, together with fellow countryman Cisse Sandra.
