Sometimes a number is more than just a number. And there is no more sought-after number in football than the 10.

Willian wore it at Chelsea last season, following the departure of Eden Hazard, and it’s available at Stamford Bridge once again this summer.

And Saturday’s friendly with Brighton may have hinted at who will take over.

Chelsea handed the number 22 worn by Christian Pulisic last season to Hakim Ziyech, who also had the number at Ajax.

But that leaves the American numberless with the 10 free. Will he take the shirt he also wears when on national team duty?

Or will prospective new signing Kai Havertz choose 10 if he completes his move from Bayer Leverkusen?
