Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out to sign Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo after his phenomenal 2024/25 campaign.

Mbeumo bagged 20 Premier League goals and created 17 big chances. He also led the league for expected assists (9.3 xA).

The Cameroon international is an astute goalscorer, ball-carrier and creator who will bolster any team he joins.

United and Spurs have placed themselves ahead of the queue for his signature.

The Red Devils have submitted two offers for the former Troyes winger, but they fell short of Brentford’s valuation.

However, Man Utd can still offer Mbeumo more in wages. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might not want to distort his strict wage structure.

Spurs do have two aces up their sleeves.

One, they just hired Thomas Frank as their manager. The Danish tactician worked with Mbeumo for years at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Europa League winners also secured a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season and will use it to entice Mbeumo.

This Mbeumo saga could be one of the intriguing summer transfer stories.

Who will come out on top in this two-way transfer battle for Mbeumo – View

United have the prestige factor on their side. Typically, they would be expected to pip Tottenham to the France-born attacker.

The Red Devils are undergoing a drastic makeover after a disappointing campaign. Mbeumo would reinforce the attack alongside Matheus Cunha.

Mbeumo could be an exciting addition to their ranks. However, he could also flop like several attackers who have recently moved to Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are just a few of the talents whose abilities seemingly dried up at the club.

Mbeumo could be taking a massive risk by joining the three-time Champions League winners.

While he might be enthused about the opportunity to help build the club back up, he must also be wary of United’s ability to swallow players.

The fact that United failed to secure a place in Europe for next season might also work against them.

On the other hand, Tottenham’s domestic season was a disaster, but they assuaged it by winning the Europa League and clinching Champions League football.

Spurs are keen on bouncing back to the upper echelon.

They are showing excellent ambition, having sounded out Antoine Semenyo (another Man Utd target) and submitted an offer for Mbeumo.

Mbeumo will have his old boss at Tottenham and the added sweetness of Champions League football while remaining in London.

Tottenham have also shown a willingness to match Brentford’s demands. In our opinion, Spurs have the upper hand. The North Londoners could win this tug-of-war with United.

The battle continues, but Spurs have an advantage.

They have an exciting project, and he can strut his stuff in the Champions League. Tottenham have all it takes to win this transfer race.
