While the 2025 summer transfer window is a long way away it is promising to be a massive transfer window in more ways than one. There is the potential for several big-name players to potentially be on the move next summer. One of those players could be Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz. Now a new report indicates that Bayern Munich fear Manchester City making their presence felt in the race for Wirtz. Could that be a realistic scenario next summer? That remains to be seen.
Graeme Bailey has reported for HITC that Manchester City are set to battle Bayern Munich for Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. The topic of City’s interest in Musiala has been covered in recent days. For this article, the focus is on City’s potential chase for Florian Wirtz as per Graeme Bailey’s new report. Bailey adds that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have an interest in signing one of Germany’s brightest prospects. Furthermore, Bailey adds that Bayern Munich fear Manchester City in the potential race to sign Wirtz. Lastly, Bailey adds that Manchester City have shown the most interest in signing Wirtz.
If Florian Wirtz does become available next summer every big club in Europe will be keen to sign the German international. It won’t be down to a battle of two clubs to sign Wirtz. He is already firmly established as one of the premier young playmakers in Europe. He showed that last season with Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz scored 18 goals and added 20 assists as Leverkusen dominated German football last season. His pedigree is well-established. Due to this, if he is to leave Leverkusen next summer, a host of clubs will be eager to sign him.
At face value, Bayern Munich would appear to be the favourites to sign Wirtz. They tend to sign the brightest young German talents to build their squad. Wirtz certainly fits that bill. They will face competition from Real Madrid, Manchester City and others to get their man. As Graeme Bailey reports the threat of Manchester City spoiling Bayern Munich’s plans does loom large.
If the champions do decide to move for Wirtz they do have the financial muscle to satisfy the demands of Bayer Leverkusen in any deal for the young attacking midfielder. That threat is ever present in any transfer battle for Florian Wirtz that may unfold. Pep Guardiola’s side is also an attractive option for any young player to further develop his game.
Manchester City could battle Bayern Munich for the signature of Florian Wirtz next summer. That is a real possibility. If Manchester City do see Wirtz as the ideal option to add to their midfield then they will make a move to sign the young playmaker. But rest assured it won’t only be City and Bayern chasing Wirtz. There will also be a host of other club’s after his signing. There is the prospect of a free for all breaking out next summer between some of Europe’s biggest club’s to sign Wirtz if he decides to leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer.
