The League Cup clash between Arsenal and Leicester City will go ahead despite three positive COVID-19 tests for West Ham United.

Arsenal faced West Ham at the weekend, and their Premier League opponents have since returned three positive COVID-19 tests. Issa Diop (who started), Josh Cullen (who wasn’t involved) and manager David Moyes all tested positive.

There’s obviously no risk of transmission from Cullen, but Diop and Moyes definitely came into contact with Arsenal players and staff. Yet the Gunners’ latest round of testing returned a full round of negative results, according to The Athletic.

The decision to play the game is slightly controversial, as it’s possible for testing to show a false negative, especially in the early stages of transmission. Arsenal players may have caught the virus and just not know it yet.

But this is the current system. As James Benge reports, things are a lot different from the days of that Olympiacos saga. As long as your team tests negative, you can play. Even if they came into contact with players testing positive, there’s no isolation period.
