England women break Euros attendance record at 2022 final in Wembley
Euro 2025 is set to be one of the most viewed women’s football tournaments of all time, but can it beat the attendance record that was set in England during Euro 2022?
When England won the Euros in 2022 on home soil, they were also able to set a new attendance record for the European Championship with 574,875 fans collectively attending the games.
The average attendance during Euro 2022 was a whopping 18,544 fans which was a huge improvement from Euro 2017 when 7,969 was the average, with a total of 247,041 turning up to watch the tournament in the Netherlands.
Of course with England winning the Euros at home in the last tournament, it is no surprise that stadiums were selling out throughout the championship and deep into the knockout rounds.
With a total off 700,000 tickets available for Euro 2025 in Switzerland there is definitely a chance that the tournament could eclipse all previous attendance records for the championship.
Women’s football has seen yet another boom in popularity and with 800 million fans of the sport projected by 2030, Euro 2025 could be another major milestone for women in football.
While the home team enjoying deep runs in the competition has played a huge part in high average attendances in the past, this year could be slightly different.
After losing 7-1 to a boys team in their penultimate warmup game for the tournament, Switzerland are viewed as a long-shot to win the tournament and it would be no surprise to see them eliminated at an early stage.
The tournament hosts are currently 25/1 to win Euro 2025 according to the best UK betting sites.
Euro 2022 in England broke all sorts of records throughout the tournament including the highest-ever attendance at a single Euros game.
When the Lionesses achieved glory at the Euro 2022 final at Wembley, 87,192 fans were crammed into the stadium making for a spectacular home atmosphere.
Two other England games at the last Euros broke into the top 5 attendances in tournament history with the Lionesses group stage games against Northern Ireland (30,785) and Austria (68,871) both attracting huge crowds.
There is no chance that any game at Euro 2025 will break the record for attendance at a women’s European Championship, with the largest stadium (St. Jakob-Park) having a maximum capacity of 34,250.
