Wilfried Zaha has reacted to Patrick Agyemang's message after the striker left Charlotte FC for Derby County.
Wilfried Zaha has wished Patrick Agyemang well as the striker completed his move to Derby County from Charlotte FC.
After weeks of speculation, it was announced this week that the Rams had finalised the arrival of the USA international, in a deal that is worth around £7.3m with add-ons included.
It is a significant outlay for Derby, and there will be high hopes for Agyemang, who is expected to lead the line alongside fellow new recruit Carlton Morris at Pride Park for John Eustace's side.
This is a big move for Agyemang, with the Connecticut-born attacker leaving the United States for the first time in his career.
He had made himself a crucial player for Charlotte over the past few years, with Agyemang on course for his best individual campaign this time around, as he had found the net six times in 16 MLS games before the transfer.
A reason for that impressive goal return rate will have been the signing of Zaha, who linked up with Dean Smith’s side at the start of this season.
He has formed a close relationship with Agyemang on and off the pitch, with the ex-Crystal Palace man taking to Instagram to react to the emotional message from the striker after his exit.
Zaha simply said ‘all the best, my boy’, and he will no doubt have given Agyemang advice on what to expect in the Championship, and moving to England, given his experience.
This is a nice message from Zaha, and Agyemang will appreciate the support he has received from someone who has played at a high level for the majority of his career.
Clearly, this is a big step for the player, but at this stage of his development, it could be exactly what he needs, particularly as he battles to be the first-choice striker for Mauricio Pochettino when the USA hosts the World Cup next year.
In terms of his attributes, Agyemang has the physicality to deal with the Championship, and he will be a constant threat with his ability to bring others into play, and his speed to run in behind.
Of course, some patience is needed from Derby, as he does need to adapt to a new league and country, but it’s a statement signing from the club, and it will be interesting to see how he does at his new club.
