After two tough defeats on the road, Sheffield United will be looking for redemption as they return to Bramall Lane to face Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Wilder’s side has struggled in recent outings, failing to register a single goal against Leeds United and Middlesbrough, highlighting an offensive slump that the Blades will hope to end in front of their home supporters.

Sheffield United’s recent inability to produce in the attacking third has been a major concern for the manager. Despite an impressive outing from Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and a full 90 minutes for Rhian Brewster in their last match, the Blades have lacked creativity and a clinical edge.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi scores his second goal of the game, and his second of the season, against Luton Town, which ultimately led to Sheffield United winning 2-0.

Chris Wilder wants to see more from his attacking players against Stoke City

Wilder, speaking in his press conference, has acknowledged the need for improvement in creating and finishing chances, stressing the importance of building stronger connections on the pitch. “We have to connect, we have to be better at the top of the pitch,” he said, adding that the team understands the standard they’re expected to reach. “We’re after a little bit more from a few others and they understand that, and they’re a little bit frustrated at the moment. But, I’m glad they’re frustrated and they understand they can do better just as much as I know they can do,” he added.

Stoke City come into this fixture with a similarly disappointing record on the road, having scored just one goal in away games this season: a stat that stretches back to August. However, their recent performances at home have shown improvement, with back-to-back score draws against Norwich City and Bristol City.

Stoke bolstered their squad in the summer with experienced players such as Viktor Johansson and promising loan signings like Tom Cannon and Lewis Koumas. The Potters are aiming to put their poor away form behind them, but Bramall Lane will pose a difficult test, and an atmosphere in which former Blade Enda Stevens knows all about.

Wilder stated, “I believe Enda [Stevens] might be involved so we know a lot about Enda and what his contribution was here. I’m sure he’ll get a fabulous reception as well. Another tough game, possession-based team and we have to dig deep. No given results in the Championship.”

One factor that could influence Sheffield United’s game plan is the absence of midfielder Gustavo Hamer, who will serve a one-match suspension due to an accumulation of bookings. However, Wilder will be able to welcome back Vinicius Souza, who has been pivotal in the midfield.

Speaking on Souza’s return, Wilder noted, “Good learning curve for Sydie Peck [on Wednesday night] playing against two really good players and Blaster’s been outstanding, I thought he was back to his best on Wednesday, I didn’t think he was great on Friday but that’s the standard he’s set since he first got in to the team. Vini was a big miss on Wednesday and a huge boost to have him back, he’s been a massive player for us.”
