Liverpool will clash heads with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Monday night hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Reds are winless in their last two league matches after being held to a scoreless draw away at Newcastle United earlier this week.

Jurgen Klopp will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might be inclined to keep changes to a minimum for this upcoming contest on the road. Georginio Wijnaldum was rested in midweek, so he should be fresh to start at the expense of James Milner who would drop to the bench.

Defence

Alisson Becker will feature in between the sticks for the Merseyside outfit after he kept a well-deserved clean sheet in his last league outing. Nathaniel Phillips should continue to operate alongside Fabinho at the centre of the Liverpool backline as they try to keep things solid in defence throughout the 90 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will fill in at right-back while Andrew Robertson looks to produce another hard-working performance as the left-back. Both of them will be given the freedom to venture forward and create some decent goal-scoring chances for their teammates inside the Southampton penalty box.

Rhys Williams and Neco Williams will make up the numbers on Klopp’s bench as they provide cover for the defensive positions.

Midfield

Georginio Wijnaldum got a rest against the Magpies, so he should be fresh for a start along with Curtis Jones and Jordan Henderson at the centre of the park. The hard-working trio will focus on retaining possession well in midfield so that they can engineer some quality chances for the front players.

Thiago Alcantara and James Milner will be available for selection on the bench but could come on to influence the game in the latter stages if needed.

Attack

Sadio Mane will once again assume the duties of the left-sided winger while Mohamed Salah hopes to put on a match-winning performance down the right flank. Roberto Firmino will spearhead Klopp’s attack down the middle. Liverpool’s front three failed to score against Newcastle in midweek, so they will be eager to produce a much-improved performance collectively on Monday night.

Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri will have to settle for a spot on the bench but might feature as the impact substitutes if Klopp decides to call upon their services.
