For a long time this season, Rotherham United looked like they were going to be the champions of League One but after a poor run of form that has looked increasingly unlikely.
The pressure from both Wigan and MK Dons has been there all season and in recent weeks the top three has started to change shape.
As it currently stands Wigan occupy top spot sitting four points clear of Rotherham and MK Dons.
Rotherham occupy second spot on goal difference with MK Dons in third but Wigan and Rotherham both have a game in hand which could see them create distance between themselves and MK Dons.
With only two automatic promotion spots, this looks like a fight that will go on until the end so here we take a look at all three sides’ remaining fixtures.
Wigan’s remaining fixtures are as follows:
Ipswich (A), Plymouth (H), Portsmouth (A), Shrewsbury (A).
Wigan face a tough final run of games with games against three teams in the top half of the league as well as three games away from home.
With Ipswich and Portsmouth having nothing to play for now this season, Wigan will be hoping they can travel to both teams and overcome them to retain their place at the top of the league.
Plymouth currently sit fourth in the league and only three points above Sheffield Wednesday in seventh so they too will be looking for wins wherever they can as the season comes to a close to solidify their play-off spot. However, with that being Wigan’s only remaining home fixture they will be hoping they can attract a large crowd to give them an upper hand.
A final day of the season away at Shrewsbury sounds like an easier task now Shrewsbury are 16th in the league and safe from relegation but on the final day of the season especially, the Shrews may be keen to put on a display to make their fans smile after a tough season.
Rotherham:
Rotherham’s remaining fixtures are as follows:
Burton (A), Oxford (H), Sunderland (A), Gillingham (A).
Just like Wigan, Rotherham only have one home game remaining which may make their end of season task a slightly harder one than they wanted.
Burton are the only team Rotherham face with nothing left to play for so this will be a good chance for the Millers to pick up three points especially as they go into that game off the back of three points against Ipswich.
Oxford currently sit eighth in the table and five points from the play-offs meaning they look out of reach but no doubt the Us will be keen to give it a final shot for as long as they can.
Sunderland will be looking for all the wins they can get as they want to solidify themselves a place in the play-offs but are only one point clear of Sheffield Wednesday as it currently stands. With that being an away game too, it may be an intimidating atmosphere for Rotherham to play in.
Their final game of the season against Gillingham may also be harder than they would have initially thought. As it stands the Gills are only one points clear of relegation and Fleetwood, who sit directly below them, also have a game in hand.
Therefore, it looks like Gillingham’s relegation battle will be going to the final day and they may need a win to keep them up. With them being the home side too, it may really work in their favour and make it a hard game for Rotherham.

MK Dons:
MK Dons remaining games are as follows:
Oxford (A), Morecambe (H), Plymouth (A).
Yet again the Dons just have one home game remaining but also they have one less game in total which could either work in their favour giving them more preparation time or mean they just fall short.
Facing Oxford tonight, if the Us are prepared to give the play-offs a final push just in case, then MK Dons will have to be prepared for a tough game.
Morecambe should be the easiest team on the list for the Dons but they are not quite safe from relegation yet themselves sitting three points above the drop zone meaning they will be wanting to win all the games they can to create distance from the bottom of the league.
MK Dons’ final game against Plymouth looks to be their hardest and the fact they are away from home may also work against them. Plymouth are the team directly below MK Dons and are only four points off them.
Depending on results before then Plymouth may be playing to secure their play-off spot or with a chance of rising above MK Dons on the final day of the season so it will no doubt be a big game.
