Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore will be near the top of West Bromwich Albion‘s list of candidates to replace Carlos Corberan should the Spaniard depart The Hawthorns for Leeds United, according to the Daily Mail.

Corberan is thought to be one of the main contenders for the Elland Road vacancy, with the Whites sacking Jesse Marsch on Monday afternoon after less than a year in the hot-seat at the West Yorkshire outfit.

The 39-year-old’s history as under-23’s manager and first-team coach under Marcelo Bielsa, coupled with his work as a head coach at Huddersfield Town and now West Brom, sees him held in high regard amongst the United hierarchy, although one particular report suggests they are ideally looking for a manager with more experience.

Who is the club's current no. 1?

Alex Palmer Josh Griffiths David Button Boaz Myhill

There is still a chance that Leeds go for Corberan though, and if they prove to be successful then Moore is set to be considered as a potential replacement.

Moore, an ex-Baggies player, managed Albion for less than a year between 2018 and 2019 and was sacked in March of the latter year with the club still in the Championship play-off places – he has since rebuilt his managerial career with Doncaster Rovers before moving onto Wednesday, who are currently top of League One.

Should Moore consider jumping ship back to his former club though should an approach come for his services? Let’s take a look at what the FLW team think…

As tempting as it would be, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it if I were Darren Moore.

He’s already at a huge club in Sheffield Wednesday and things are going to plan so far this season, looking like they will return to the Championship.

I don’t think at this stage I’d want to leave that behind, even if the Baggies are in the hunt for the play-offs in the second tier.

You only have to look at Sunderland and how they are competing for an insight as to where Sheffield Wednesday could potentially be next season themselves and for that reason, no, I would not take the job if I were the Owls boss.

Moore should think incredibly carefully before accepting the West Brom job.

The Baggies were fourth in the table when Moore was sacked in March 2019, so he should be wary about returning to a club where he was so harshly treated.

Moore is doing an excellent job at Sheffield Wednesday and with the club currently sitting top of the League One table, there is every chance they may be in the same league as Albion next season.

With the Baggies currently in the play-off places, it would be a tempting offer if it came his way and he would be inheriting a squad in excellent form after the revival under Carlos Corberan.

But there are question marks over Albion’s financial situation, with growing concerns over the ownership at the club, while Wednesday are a club who seem to be finally heading in an upward trajectory on and off the pitch.

Taking everything into account, if I was Moore, there is no way that I would be walking away from the project at Wednesday right now.

Darren Moore has already been the West Brom manager under the exact same ownership that runs the ship now at The Hawthorns – the same hierarchy that sacked him when fourth in the Championship in 2019 – so why would he want to go back?

Of course money could be a factor and the likelihood that West Brom would pay a better wage than the Owls, but if it’s down to purely football purposes then it’s perhaps one to avoid for him.

Albion’s future finances are pretty uncertain right now and there is also an absent owner to think about, so despite Corberan’s short-term success so far at the club, it would not be a simple job by any means.

Compare that to the work he’s doing at Sheffield Wednesday right now where he has some stability, and if things continue as they have been going they will be back in the Championship later in the year, so if I was Moore I’d stay exactly where I currently am.
