Real Madrid summer signing Trent Alexander-Arnold played no part in the club’s meeting with Paris Saint-Germain owing to a fitness setback in training.
Xabi Alonso’s troops of course marked their return to action late on Wednesday night.
With a place in the finale of the Club World Cup on the line, Real Madrid locked horns with Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
And when all was said and done, Los Blancos were shown just how far off the very best in Europe they are at present.
This came courtesy of a 4-0 drubbing, an aptly disappointing end to what was an underwhelming campaign all told for Real in 2024/25.
Forced to watch on from the stands as his teammates were put to the sword in New Jersey, as alluded to above, was Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The England international was a late scratch from Xabi Alonso’s squad to face PSG, after suffering what has since been described as a ‘setback’ in training this week.
