Tottenham Hotspur forbid Portsmouth from playing Dane Scarlett in FA Cup game

Tottenham Hotspur have once again denied Portsmouth permission to play Dane Scarlett in an FA Cup game this season.

According to Football.London, the decision will allow Spurs to field the 18-year-old in the FA Cup in a Tottenham shirt if they wish to recall him once the January transfer window opens.

Scarlett wasn’t permitted by Tottenham to play in Pompy’s first-round FA Cup tie against Hereford at the beginning of November. Danny Cowley revealed the reason why Scarlett was absent against Hereford after the game, telling BBC Radio Solent (h/t Football.London):

“That’s the communication we’ve had with them and we’re hopeful that we might have him for the next one. It’s absolutely the prerogative of the parent club to make that decision so we totally respect that.”

It is Spurs’ wish if they want to let Scarlett represent Portsmouth in the FA Cup but it would not make sense to deny them the opportunity to utilise his services if we have nothing in our plans for him this campaign.

It is, however, a good safety net to have. In all honesty, Tottenham’s decision would perhaps be the result of the situations that have arisen this season.

Kane has featured in every single one of our games this campaign while Lucas Moura, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Son Heung-min have all missed games due to their respective fitness issues.

Kane is being played by England in every game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to no one’s surprise. There may be a time that he needs some rest and if it coincides with another injury crisis on our frontline, we could be in a world of trouble.
