An explanation for the absence of Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona’s starting line-up to face RCD Mallorca on Tuesday has been provided.
Barcelona are of course currently locked in action, on the domestic front.
With sights on a first win in four in La Liga, the Blaugrana have made the trip to Son Moix, for a meeting with the aforementioned Mallorca.
Boss Hansi Flick for his part opted to ring the changes in his XI for the clash, with the likes of Gavi, Pablo Torre and Fermín López dropping out.
As alluded to above, though, the most head-turning alteration has come at centre-forward.
This comes with the ever-present Robert Lewandowski, fresh off a disappointing showing against Las Palmas over the weekend, having been dropped to the bench.
Ferran Torres, instead, has been selected to lead the line for the Catalans.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off at Son Moix, it therefore came as little surprise when his decision to leave Lewandowski out was put to boss Flick.
And the German tactician went on to assure that as much has come simply with a view to affording the veteran goalscorer a much-needed rest:
“Lewandowski has played a lot of minutes and needs rest. We have important matches coming up, like Betis on Saturday and Dortmund next Wednesday. It’s good for him to take a break.”
