PSV Eindhoven have told supporters they are welcome to attend Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Arsenal in fancy dress.
Eindhoven is currently hosting the festival of Carnival, which has been running since February 28 and concludes on Tuesday night.
The city is, as a result, packed with festival-goers enjoying the entertainment and sticking to the tradition of dressing up.
The local tourist website, This Is Eindhoven, advises people to be as creative as they want when it comes to what they wear.
“You can’t really go wrong, it’s mainly a chance to be someone completely different,” the website says.
“Originality is always appreciated, a nod to current events too. Can’t figure it out? Your favourite Netflix series will definitely provide inspiration.”
PSV are aware of the festival and have told fans they can attend Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg with Arsenal in fancy dress.
“The match will be on the last day of carnival,” the Dutch club said. “As a result, we expect extra crowds in the city centre.
“We therefore advise you to come to the stadium on time, so you don’t miss anything of the match. Eindhoven’s Finest will be playing in the Philips Stadium from 19:45.
“Supporters are welcome to come to the stadium in carnival clothes. Please note that UEFA does not allow face coverings. In addition, drunk visitors will not be allowed into the stadium.”
PSV have asked those not in fancy dress to “wear something red and help to transform the Philips Stadium into a red mass”.
Around 1,600 Arsenal fans are expected in Eindhoven for the game on Tuesday and they have been invited to join in the Carnival celebrations during the day.
