Newcastle United passed on signing Jetro Willems last month.
The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle opted against signing Jetro Willems during the January window after making initial contact with his representatives in December to assess the player's fitness.
His name featured in recruitment meetings with the feeling that his friendship and excellent combination with Allan Saint-Maximin would benefit the team and group.
But manager Steve Bruce vetoed the deal with budget constraints very tight at Newcastle.
The possibility of a summer return remains, when Willems - who will not sign the extension offered by Eintracht Frankfurt - is a free agent.
