João Neves was on many top European clubs’ radar as a departure from SL Benfica was nearing last summer. Despite the many suitors, one French football pundit states that the midfielder only had eyes on one project.

Last July, The Evening Standard reported that Manchester United was one of the strong suitors for Neves. The Red Devils’ initial bid of €70 million (£59 million) for long-time target Neves was rejected, with Paris Saint-Germain also making an offer.

In the end, PSG secured Neves with a bid of €60 million plus an additional €10 million in add-ons. Moreover, the arrival of the Portuguese standout has been well worth the money spent by the Parisians.

Neves has scored three goals and recorded eight assists for PSG in 28 matches across all competitions. In Friday’s 4-1 victory over AS Monaco, the 20-year-old recorded 113 touches while having two key passes and earning an 8.0 rating on SofaScore.

After the match, RMC Sport’s Kevin Diaz stated that although there were many suitors for Neves, PSG was the only club he wanted to join. “I heard that Neves only wanted PSG this summer,” Diaz said on Friday’s After Foot RMC (h/t Le10Sport).
