An insight into Hannibal Mejbri’s decision to reject a move to Everton, in favour of joining Sevilla, has been provided this afternoon.
The name of Manchester United midfielder Hannibal has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish football headlines over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after the Tunisian international flew out to Spain, to put pen to paper on terms with the aforementioned Sevilla.
The transfer comes in the form of a half-season loan, which features an option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of around €20 million.
So, with Everton having also been interested in his services, and Hannibal himself more familiar with English football than Spanish, what proved the decisive factor in the 20-year-old’s decision to make the move to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán?
As alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has been provided on Monday.
The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who, writing in his column for Caught Offside, revealed that Sevilla’s ‘insistence’ proved decisive, after the Nervionenses also attempted to land Hannibal in the summer:
“As I previously mentioned, Everton were also keen on the player and tried to hijack the deal but I’m told Sevilla already wanted him in August, so this insistence made the difference as they really wanted Hannibal strongly.”
