Why Jose Mourinho spoke Portuguese in Roma press conference after Sassuolo win | OneFootball

Jose Mourinho is never too far from antics and he did it again after Roma’s win over Sassuolo yesterday.

The Giallorossi came back from a goal to win the game against Sassuolo, with Daniel Boloca’s sending off helping them out. But after the game, Mourinho was speaking to the press in Portuguese instead of Italian.

He said: “Speaking of the match, it was an important, hard-fought and deserved victory. Even at 1-0 ours was the best team on the pitch . Why do I speak Portuguese? Because my Italian is not sufficiently polished and strong to express certain concepts.”

He further said: “When I talked about emotional stability, I talked about a quality that in life and in football is necessary to perform at the highest levels. Regarding what caused discontent among the fans and members of Sassuolo, when we did not return a ball, I told the Sassuolo bench that to receive fair play you have to give it and one of their players is lacking in this.”

Mourinho’s comments are linked to whatt had happened before the game, during the pre-game press conference on Saturday. When asked about the Sassuolo game, Mourinho had questioned the refereeing of Matteo Marcenaro and had also expressed his doubts about Marco di Bello’s abilities. On top of that, he had gone on to question Domenico Berardi’s discipline, stating that he doesn’t behave well on the pitch.

The Portuguese’s comments had attracted authorities, with FIGC having launched an investigation into his comments. His comments in Portuguese intended to suggest that since his Italian isn’t fluent, he couldn’t put his point about the referees across fluently.

Club sporting director Tiago Pinto also conferred with Mourinho’s comments, questioning referees and stating that Mourinho didn’t mean to offend anyone.
