Former Paris Saint-Germain standout Kylian Mbappé is off to a slow start by his standards as he’s scored one goal in three matches across all competitions for Real Madrid. While there are some poking fun at the situation, one expert hopes the player turns it around.
It’s no secret that Ligue 1 and French football have been dealing with a lot of bad press over the last few weeks. The television situation resolved itself and it wasn’t until Matchday 2 that people in the United Kingdom could watch matches legally.
French clubs in the top flight are reportedly facing bankruptcy due to the underwhelming television money. The league needs good press, and Mbappé could provide that, as Robin Bairner, Chief Editor at FootballTransfers.com, states that the Frenchman’s success in Spain bodes well for Ligue 1.
Mbappé thriving in La Liga would mean the player didn’t solely succeed because the Parisians had a better squad than the other clubs. A success with Real Madrid means that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner can thrive in any league.
“I hope it does [go well] for him [at Real Madrid] in a way because I feel like he deserves to prove how good a player he is away from Ligue 1,” Bairner said on the latest PSG Talking episode. “If he doesn’t play well, then it diminishes the standing of Ligue 1 to some extent in the eyes of La Liga fans, and I suppose fans around Europe and the world as a whole.”
