The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona were today afforded a boost in their hopes of landing Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have provided an insight into the chances of the midfielder ultimately taking his talents to Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of Wirtz’s future has taken its place front and centre in his home country of Germany over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after the 20-year-old’s father and agent, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, spoke out regarding his son’s plans for the seasons ahead.

Amid links with some of the continent’s biggest clubs owing to his remarkable exploits for Xabi Alonso’s rampant Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz’s father assured that he has no intention of departing the BayArena any time soon:

“Florian has a contract with Bayer until 2027 and that is the approximate time he will be in Leverkusen,” he informed newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. “We have to wait the next two years and then we will see where the path leads. At this moment we cannot know what will happen.”

And as much, as alluded to above, has come as music to the ears of the board at Spanish heavyweights Barcelona.

The Barca brass have long had Wirtz in their sights as a leading target, desperate to add a game-changing profile to the club’s ranks in the attacking third.

With the youngster’s haul of eight goals and a whopping 17 assists thus far this season having seen his price-tag skyrocket to somewhere in the region of €80-100 million, however, Deco and co. are more than aware that any move for Wirtz would require significant forward planning.

But confirmation that the German will not seek out a move to one of Europe’s top clubs for at least another two years could provide the Blaugrana with just enough time to get their finances in order to launch a bid.
