We’re in the lull between transfer windows right now, but that won’t stop Chelsea being linked with young talents left right and centre.

The latest name to come up in connection with the Blues is Geovany Quenda of Sporting Club de Portugal.

HITC’s Graeme Bailey has the exclusive which claims that the Blues are in the queue, along with Man City, Man U and Tottenham to try and sign the youngster. Quenda has just 7 first team appearances to his name, but after turning 17 in the Spring is already starting to make waves in Portugal for his precocious talent.

Portuguese club in position to get their full money’s worth

Sporting are not in any great need of a sale – they’re sitting pretty in the Portuguese league having won the title last year, and with their main rivals both a little off the pace. The much coveted Ruben Amorim is still in place for another year, and it’s all looking pretty rosy at the Jose Alvalade. Not only that, but they have a €100m asset in Viktor Gyokeres already on the books, with a sale next summer looking likely.

Knowing they’ve got a major influx of cash for the Swede coming in the near future means they’ll be in no rush to sell Quenda, and we reckon it could be a year or 18 months before he makes the move. The €84m release clause in the youngster’s contract looks like it might actually end up getting paid if he continues to develop.

The player will also be in no rush to move – at Sporting he will get chances and be developed. At Chelsea or any other top team, he’s going to be another talent potentially lost in the churn.

So this is one for the future….
