Captain Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United ‘cannot’ be happy with a draw at Anfield as he calls for more consistency.
United were much-improved in the thrilling 2-2 draw against leaders Liverpool and should have won the match in the final seconds as Harry Maguire blazed over.
In an absorbing second half, Lisandro Martinez fired United ahead, before Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah turned the match in Liverpool’s favour.
Amad Diallo salvaged a point in the final 10 minutes and despite the improvement, Fernandes revealed he was ‘upset’ with the final result.
“We’ve been criticised and fairly, the position in the table shows that. We can’t be happy with the draw, we need points more than they do,” he spoke post match.
“We can’t be satisfied. I’m pretty upset. If we can show this at Anfield, why can’t we do this every week? We need to be aware that we need much more from ourselves.”
“Today was about putting real effort into the game. Playing with passion. Obviously you have the tactics, but at the end of the day you have to put the effort in to get something.
“It has to be our level. If we are capable of producing that at Anfield, we have to do it every week.
“We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we put in a real effort to the game, playing with some passion and heart is what is going to give you something from the game.
“You have to put in effort and that’s why we took something from today.”
