Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an explanation for his decision to leave midfield pair Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni on the bench for the club’s meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
Real, of course, are currently locked in action on the continent.
In their third fixture of the newly-formatted Champions League campaign, Los Blancos have welcomed the aforementioned Dortmund to the Spanish capital, for a repeat of last season’s tournament finale.
Boss Ancelotti and his coaching staff opted to shake things up for the matchup, fielding a new-look midfield three of Federico Valverde, Luka Modrić, and Jude Bellingham.
This meant that there was no place for either Camavinga or Tchouaméni in Real’s line-up, a topic which Carlo Ancelotti was inevitably drawn on ahead of kick-off.
And the Italian tactician went on to reveal that the call was made with what he felt was much-needed rest in mind:
“No Camavinga or Tchouaméni? I don’t want to run the players into the ground. Tchouaméni played two full games with France.”
