Another day, another Liverpool player linked with a move to Barcelona. This time, however, it would seem that the Reds have the upper hand.

Amid the backdrop of star striker Darwin Nunez reportedly being 'offered' to the Catalan giants, their long-standing interest in Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is no secret either.

However, while a move for the Uruguayan seems more likely with each passing day, according to reports coming out of Spain, Barcelona's pursuit of Diaz would seem a lot more complicated.

As reported in Sport, the Blaugrana consider the Colombian "100% unaffordable" this summer, despite his attributes making him a desirable option.

Instead, they are eyeing Athletic Club's Nico Williams to inject "explosiveness" into their attack down the left-hand side.

Nico Williams valued at over €50 million

Nico Williams, the younger brother of Iñaki, is highly regarded across Europe, with a price tag estimated at over €50 million.

However, there's a caveat: he's perceived to lack "edge or creativity in static play." According to Barcelona's scouts, this is where Diaz shines for Liverpool, offering qualities that Williams seemingly lacks.

Nonetheless, given his profile, age (21), and familiarity with La Liga, Barcelona see Williams as a strategic addition to their squad.

The Catalan club are reportedly now aiming to convince Williams that he'll be a pivotal figure in their future, with manager Xavi seeing him as a 'differential' player.

Luis Diaz to stay at Liverpool?

While Diaz has undoubtedly impressed since signing from FC Porto for a reported £37.5 million (€45m) in January 2022, the fact that money could put Barcelona off suggests that the Reds believe the 27-year-old's value is much higher than the €50 million mooted for Williams.

For Liverpool, Barcelona's apparent pursuit of Williams will now alleviate concerns about Diaz's potential departure.

Their interest in the Spain international not only illuminates their transfer priorities but also hints at their financial constraints, providing Liverpool with a sense of security regarding Diaz's long-term future at the club.
