Why Barcelona are increasingly ‘worried’ about Nico Williams deal

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are growing concerned when it comes to the potential arrival of Nico Williams at the club.

The name of attacker Williams has of course long positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in the Spanish media.

As much comes amid the widespread understanding that the 22-year-old has been identified as the no.1 summer transfer target on the part of the aforementioned Barcelona.

The Blaugrana, in turn, have ramped up negotiations with Williams’ entourage, widely tipped as close to finalising an agreement over the terms of a long-term contract.

And yet, if the latest word to have surfaced over the last 24 hours is anything to go by, those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, in fact, are not overly confident when it comes to their chances of closing a deal.

This comes owing to the emergence of a new suitor in the race for Williams’ signature.

After word began to surface in the media on Thursday that Paris Saint-Germain had offered to double the wages on offer to the Spanish international at Barcelona, Blaugrana insider Gerard Romero has provided a further insight into the situation.

Confirming PSG’s emergence into the race for Williams, Romero points towards Deco and members of the board in Catalunya’s capital as being ‘worried’.

As much, of course, comes amid the knowledge on Barca’s part that they simply can’t compete with the French champions from a financial standpoint.
