Paris Saint-Germain was one of several clubs interested in Athletic Club’s star, Nico Williams. However, the UEFA Euro 2024 winner turned down offers to remain at Athletic Club.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG are all reportedly eyeing Williams at one point this summer transfer window.

Mundo Deportivo also reported last month that Iñaki Williams is urging his younger brother, Nico, to stay at Athletic. The report added that Iñaki is keen on playing alongside his brother in the UEFA Europa League this season.

Now that the summer transfer window is closed, the younger Williams spoke to DAZN and explained his decision to remain with his current club for another season.

“Athletic means everything to me,” Williams said (h/t Foot Mercato). “I’ve had offers from clubs that many players would jump at, but I’m happy here. My agent handles those things, but I’ve decided to stay for another year and enjoy playing in European competitions.

“Some people doubted whether I really wanted to stay, but I’ve always received positive support. I’ve shown my love for Athletic, even with plenty of offers on the table. I want to be here for another year and experience Europe with Athletic. After the holidays, I talked it over with my parents and brother, and decided this is where I want to be. The feeling you get at Athletic is unique, and it’s the best place for me to keep growing.”

The younger Williams also impressed at the club level, making 37 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Club last season. Additionally, he played a significant role in helping Spain win UEFA Euro 2024 this past summer in Germany.
