Why Antonio Conte was absent from Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City clash

Antonio Conte will not be on touchline duty for Tottenham Hotspur when they take on Manchester City later today (5 February).

The Italian manager, as claimed by the Daily Mail, hasn’t recovered from his gall bladder surgery in time and as a result, will not be on the sidelines. Instead, assistant manager Cristian Stellini will take over.

Stellini was also on media duty for the 3-0 FA Cup win against Preston North End last month and was also present in the manager’s box for the match. He will do so again when we take on the Cityzens at N17.

Conte was ill last week and returned to Italy to undergo surgery after suffering from severe abdominal pain. He is believed to be still in Turin as he continues his recovery.

Conte will be a big miss

The 53-year-old is a dynamic personality for us on the touchline and surely his absence will be a big loss for us. He constantly keeps our players on their toes with his screaming and shouting, and his passion for the game is infectious for our players as well.

Stellini can do a decent job in his absence as well. He has been on the touchline before so it’s not like he would be having first-day jitters.

Of course, any game against Manchester City isn’t easy but Spurs have the squad to be able to beat them, and also have the fans behind them in their home stadium. It remains to be seen when Conte returns to his full-time duties.

Our next game after the match against manager Pep Guardiola’s side will be the league encounter against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Hopefully, Conte recovers well by then and is back on touchline duty when we take on the Foxes.
