Nottingham Forest have lodged a bid for Boavista and USA international Reggie Cannon, according to 90min.com.

The 23-year-old, who now finds himself in the Portuguese top tier, started his senior career with FC Dallas, making 67 appearances for the American club.

Cannon primarily operates as a right-back, but he has also been trusted higher up the pitch in midfield positions.

Progressing through the academy system at FC Dallas, the young defender swapped Texas for the west coast, joining the University of California, Los Angeles.

In his first year at the university, Cannon featured 20 times and he was the only Freshman to feature for the side.

After that year, he returned to Dallas to sign his first professional contract with the club, before waiting six months to be handed his foist-team debut.

Cannon emerged as a regular the following season, and he ended the campaign with 34 appearances to his name, scoring one goal in the process.

Prior to this stage of his career, the young full-back represented the USA at youth level, but in 2018 he was given his debut at senior level.

Since his first appearance for his national side in October 2018, Cannon has gone on to feature 22 times at international level, netting his first goal in June of this year.

In September 2020, Boavista secured the signing of Cannon in a deal worth up to €3.5 million. The American club included a 25-50% sell-on fee too.

Cannon is certainly an exciting prospect, who could be a real steal at Championship level, should Forest proceed to strike a deal with the Portuguese outfit.

The right-back role has been an area of prioritisation for The Reds, with Jordan Gabriel the only current option, and with his future yet to be determined, the need for a right-back is very high.

The 23-year-old also has the versatility to operate as a winger, which could benefit Chris Hughton if he intends to play with a three-at-the-back in certain games.

Boavista will likely hold a high valuation of Cannon. Not only because of the ability and talent he possesses, but because of the monumental sell-on fee Dallas included last year.
