Every year since 2014, the Guardian has produced a list of 20 of the top 16-to-17-year-old talents in England, profiling one first-year scholar from each Premier League outfit.

They hit the nail on the head in their inaugural selection, naming Hamza Choudhury as a potential Premier League starter.

On Wednesday, the Guardian released their 2019 selection, identifying Welsh central midfielder Oli Ewing as a future star, but who exactly is he?

Ewing did not pass through the Leicester academy, as the Foxes picked up the Wales U-17 international after being released by Fulham.

The youngster was signed to a two-year scholarship deal after impressing as a trialist with the U-18s in a 3-2 loss against Chelsea in January.

Last season, Ewing operated as a number six in a double-pivot, playing nine matches for the U-18s and even captaining the side in their final match of the season against Tottenham.

This season, Ewing has transitioned to a number 10, where Leicester feel he plays best, and captained the U-18 side in their first six matches of the season after spending the pre-season with the U-23s.

Ewing has captained Wales at the U-15, U-16, and U-17 levels.

Previous Foxes named to the list are as follows:

  1. 2014: Hamza Choudhury (Leicester City)
  2. 2015: Darnell Johnson (Leicester City U-23s captain)
  3. 2016: Simranjit Thandi (Cyprus side AEK Larnaca)
  4. 2017: Lukas Husek (Leicester City U-23s)
  5. 2018: Shane Flynn (Leicester City U-18s)
