Manchester United are being linked with Patrick Dorgu and have reportedly had a bid rejected for the Lecce wide man. Below is everything you need to know about him.

Dorgu is a Danish left-back or wing-back, who started his youth career at Danish side FC Nordsjælland. The 20-year-old joined Italian side Lecce in July 2022 to play for their under-19 team, before being moved up to the senior team ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The defender made his debut in the Coppa Italia against Como on 13 August 2023, before making his full Serie A debut a week later against Lazio. He played 34 times last season and has already made 22 appearances this season, as well as scoring 42 seconds into his senior Denmark debut.

Contract status

Dorgu’s previous contract with Leece would have taken the young Dane to the end of the 2026/27 season, but the 20-year-old signed an extension to his deal in October 2024, which extended it to the end of the 2028/29 campaign. As of now there is no reports of a release clause and United have reportedly had a bid of £27 million rejected.

Style of play

Whilst predominantly a left-back or wing-back for Lecce, Dorgu has been deployed all across the pitch for the Italian side. Although the left side is his preferred and dominant position, the Dane has been most impressive on the right-hand side and in a much more attacking position. His four goals for club and country have all come down the right, so he would offer some versatility to Ruben Amorim’s side, with the Portuguese manager encouraging his wing-backs to push further forward.

Who is interested?

Manchester United have been linked with the most interest in the wing-back, but they are not the only English club looking at the 20-year-old, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea also said to be monitoring Dorgu. Italian giants AC Milan had been interested in the Danish international prior to his contract extension, likewise with Antonio Conte’s Napoli, who would reportedly loan Dorgu back to Leece for the remainder of the season. Such transfer speculation not only keeps fans on edge but also fuels excitement in the betting world. What’s been said?

Leece’s director Sticchi Damiani has recently spoken out about United’s interest in Dorgu, which appears to rule out the Dane from leaving this window: “We met with Man United and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu. We’re delighted to have Man United here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial.”

Did you know?

Born in Copenhagen to Nigerian parents, Dorgu revealed in a recent interview that his footballing idol is former Chelsea players Eden Hazard: “When I was young I was a striker and a winger, so my idol was Hazard. I really liked watching him when he played at Chelsea. Now it’s Alphonso Davies, Theo Hernandez, and yes, the very best full-backs in the world.”
