No player in football is loved more than a goalscorer and the Premier League has had some of the best.

Since its inception, the Premier League has arguably been the envy of the world when it comes to No.9s and every year, teams look to splash the clash in search of better goalscoring options. With that investment, new benchmarks are always being set, most recently with Erling Haaland breaking the single-season Premier League goalscoring record. It was an incredible achievement from the Norwegian, who netted 36 goals in the league alone to help fire Manchester City to the treble.

But how does that record look for each club? Here’s is every current Premier League’s single-season record goalscorer since the competition began in 1992.

Luton have had just one season in the Premier League, but they’ll hope either Morris or Adebayo (or both) can add to their tallies of nine each as they fight for survival.

19. Brighton: Glenn Murray

18. Burnley: Chris Wood

17. Sheffield United: Brian Deane

Brian Deane returned a very respectable 15 goals during the inaugural 1992/93 Premier League season. However, in the 38-game era, David McGoldrick (2020/21) and Rob Hulse (2006/07) are Sheffield United’s top single-season scorers with a more modest tally of eight each.

16. West Ham: Paolo Di Canio

Italian ex-forward Paolo Di Canio has long held the record for West Ham with his 16-goal haul in 1999/00, but that is finally under threat with Jarrod Bowen just one behind this season. The England international will hope to recover his fitness as soon as possible to add those final couple of goals.

13. Bournemouth: Dominic Solanke

It looked for a long time like Dominic Solanke wouldn’t cash in on his considerable talent but since joining Bournemouth, he’s become an influential player. The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker already has 17 goals for Bournemouth so far this season, sitting behind only Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer (20 each) and Ollie Watkins (19) in the Golden Boot race. Gareth Southgate will be watching.

12. Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins and Christian Benteke

Speaking of Watkins, his strike in Aston Villa’s excellent 2-0 win at the Emirates recently was enough to see him equal Christian Benteke’s single-season club record of 19 Premier League goals. However, Watkins — who is currently seen as Harry Kane’s back-up for England — still has another five games to find another goal and take the record for himself.

11. Brentford: Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney’s 20-goal haul last season saw him linked with a number of top clubs before his eight-month ban. Can he rediscover that form? The Brentford man is another in that England battle of the back-ups.

10. Crystal Palace: Andy Johnson

21 goals as a relegated player was an incredible achievement for Andy Johnson back in 2004/05 and just two years later — following a 15-goal Championship season — he made a big move to Everton.

9. Nottingham Forest: Stan Collymore

Stan Collymore’s 22-goal return in 1994/95 remains Nottingham Forest’s single-season record in the Premier League era and is unlikely to be broken any time soon. However, Chris Wood is enjoying a strong campaign this time around with 12 goals so far, which is the club’s record across a 38-game season.

8. Everton: Romelu Lukaku

Amazingly, 25 goals was not enough for Romelu Lukaku to win the Golden Boot back in 2016/17, though it did help Everton qualify for the Europa League in seventh place, 15 points clear of Southampton in eighth. The Toffees haven’t played in Europe since and have struggled to replace Lukaku as well, with the Belgian leaving for Manchester United that summer.

7. Chelsea: Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba was often a man for the big occasion but in 2009/10 he absolutely let loose across an entire season, with his 29 Premier League goals helping Chelsea beat Man Utd to the title by a single point. That remains the best single-season Premier League return of any Chelsea player. Cole Palmer might have just a little too much to do to catch the Ivorian, though his nine goals across his last five games to take him to 20 for the campaign is a great effort.

6. Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Kane

Who else for Tottenham? Harry Kane hit the 30-mark twice during his illustrious (but trophyless) spell with the Lilywhites but amazingly didn’t win the Golden Boot in either, pipped by record-setting returns from Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland. Kane did, of course, still manage three Premier League Golden Boots in other seasons.

5. Arsenal: Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie

With his incredible speed, skill and ability to link play, Thierry Henry was arguably the first big leap into the modern era when it came to strikers in the Premier League. And yet, the French icon still found time to score a phenomenal amount of goals as well, including 30 in the 2003/04 season as Arsenal went invincible. That record stood until 2011/12 until Robin van Perise matched it, with the Dutchman then moving to United and winning another Golden Boot to fire the Red Devils to the title.

4. Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo

A few players have bettered it since, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s 31-goal Premier League season in 2007/08 will live long in the memory for some of the incredible moments it produced, with the Red Devils lifting a league and Champions League double that season.

The Portuguese phenom would stay for one more year and Premier League title before departing for Real Madrid, where he made a mockery of his already ridiculous Man Utd goalscoring numbers.

3. Liverpool: Mohamed Salah

When Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool in 2017, many poured scorn on the Reds for signing a ‘Chelsea reject’. However, the Egyptian very quickly set about proving the doubters very, very wrong with 32 goals in 36 Premier League appearances to win the first of his three Golden Boots.

That broke the single-season goalscoring record in a 38-game Premier League season; one he may have expected to stand a little longer, if not for a certain Norwegian…

2. Newcastle United: Andy Cole

We’ll get to that Norwegian in a moment. First, let’s talk about a club that has been blessed with incredible strikers, despite going so long without a trophy.

Andy Cole holds the single-season Premier League goalscoring record for Newcastle with 34 in 1993/94, winning the Golden Boot and starting down the path to a move to Manchester United in the process. But the Magpies found it incredibly easy to replace Cole, with Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer going on to set the 38-game club records with 25 goals each in 1995/96 and 1996/97, respectively.

Remember when people wondered whether or not Haaland would be able to translate his awesome goalscoring numbers in the Bundesliga with Dortmund to the Premier League?

Those worries were very quickly put to bed as Haaland blasted in 36 goals last season to fire Man City to a third straight title. His overall tally was a breathtaking 52 goals in 53 games as the 23-year-old made it his personal business to fire City to a historic treble.
