Rio Ferdinand has commended Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho for rebounding from a challenging period at Old Trafford and rejuvenating his career at Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho returned to Dortmund in January to escape his troubles in England.

The England international got embroiled in a bitter spat with Erik ten Hag that played out in public.

Ten Hag told reporters he dropped Sancho from the matchday squad that travelled to London to take on Arsenal in early September, due to his poor performances in training.

Almost immediately, the winger issued a response via a strongly-worded statement which he published on social media. Sancho essentially accused his manager of being a liar and making him a scapegoat.

Ten Hag banished the forward from the senior squad and from accessing all first-team areas. He was also made to train alone. Club chiefs made repeated attempts to reconcile the pair but it’s believed their relationship is far too damaged and it’s almost beyond repair.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sancho has still not given up on his United career and would be open to returning, especially in the event that Ten Hag is sacked. It’s also understood that incoming technical director Jason Wilcox is open to giving Sancho another chance to prove himself at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old Dortmund star was named in the Bundesliga giants’ starting XI against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Dortmund shocked Diego Simeone’s men 4-2 in their quarter-final second leg at Signal Iduna Park. The German outfit won the tie 5-4 on aggregate after they’d trailed 2-0 at one stage in the first leg.

While Sancho didn’t get on the score sheet or register an assist, he put up an impressive display, which caught the attention of Ferdinand.

Ferdinand said on TNT Sports (via Goal), “We asked for Sancho to put in a performance, a lot to prove and he’s showing it.”

“He’s left Manchester United under a cloud, he’s now in a Champions League semi-final against PSG.”

Ferdinand added, “Who could have written that script? He wouldn’t have seen that coming.”

Reacting to the win, Sancho wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “SEMI FINALS! Great fight from the team today!”

Dortmund will now face reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final stage of the continental competition.
