Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández still needs a right-back and a midfielder. At right-back, the options of Joao Cancelo and Juan Foyth appear to be gone, and in midfield the club they have gone from considering Martín Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich to Dani Parejo and Girona’s Oriol Romeu.
AS report that the Blaugrana are focused on the signing of Real Valladolid’s 18-year-old right-back Iván Fresneda, who is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund.
In midfield, Oriol Romeu could be the option they go for. The Girona midfielder is Barça’s choice to fill the position left by Sergio Busquets. Parejo was also considered, but the Villarreal player has rejected the proposal.
Parejo had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave until 30 June and Barcelona tried to convince the player before that deadline expired, but negotiations failed to advance. AS claim that neither the proposal nor Barcelona’s project convinced him, in addition to the fact that he feels settled at Villarreal.
Following Parejo’s refusal to join, Barcelona have activated plan B: Oriol Romeu. The former Southampton player joined Barça’s youth setup in 2004, before spending seven years at the club.
