In doing so, Pep Guardiola has broken the tie with the legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who inspired the Red Devils to three successive Premier League titles on two occasions.

Guardiola has helped Man City join a select club of only five clubs across Europe’s top-five leagues to have won the championship four or more times on the bounce.

Barcelona

Between 1930 and 1935, the 36-time Serie A winners had no match in the league before their crosstown rivals Torino fell one title short of equalling that record from 1945-49.

Juventus’ tremendous streak in the early days of Serie A would go on to be a benchmark for Italian clubs for almost a century before the Bianconeri outdid themselves in the 2010s.

From 2011 to 2020, the Turin heavyweights ruled Italian football with unparalleled dominance en route to becoming the first side to win nine consecutive titles in Europe’s top-five divisions.

Inter Milan

Just four years before they embarked on their domestic rampage, Juventus were stranded in Serie B due to an infamous match-fixing scandal.

From the ashes of ‘Calciopoli’, one side emerged as the new supreme force in Italian football.

Coached by Roberto Mancini, Inter Milan took advantage of Juventus’ relegation and AC Milan’s point deduction, aggravated by a financial crisis, to assert their dominance in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri became the first Italian side since Juve in the 30s to string together five consecutive top-flight titles, holding the reins between 2005 and 2010.

Bayern Munich

Juventus’ astonishing achievement was supposed to set a new standard for European football before Bayern Munich pushed the boundaries even further.

The two runs coincided, with the Bavarians launching their 11-year tenure in the Bundesliga in 2012 before Xabi Alonso’s invincible Bayer Leverkusen side knocked them down from the throne in 2023.
