In terms of the greatest impact made by a Portuguese player in Premier League history, it is hard to look past Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old is one of the greatest to ever grace a football field, and it was at Manchester United where he first made his mark on the sport. His performances in the English top flight helped him win the Ballon d’Or and, while he is perhaps most commonly associated with Real Madrid, he is still one of the Premier League’s most memorable players.

Many of his compatriots, such as Ricardo Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes and Joao Cancelo, have also done well on these shores.

But which Portuguese ace has made the most Premier League appearances in the competition’s history? Let’s find out!

Who tops the list?

Ronaldo’s United teammate, Nani, makes it into the top ten, as do other familiar names such as Bernardo Silva, Joao Moutinho, and Jose Fonte.

Moutinho’s fellow Wolves midfielder, Ruben Neves, also features high up the list, along with Cedric Soares and Paulo Ferreira.

At the top of the tree, however, is Luis Boa Morte, who actually played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal at the 2006 World Cup.

Which Premier League clubs did Boa Morte play for?

Boa Morte spent the majority of his career in England, and most of that time came in the country’s top flight.

He moved to ArsenalSouthampton two years later.

He is arguably best known for his spell at Fulham, while his Premier League career came to an end with West Ham, where he spent four years between 2007 and 2011.

What are Boa Morte’s Premier League stats?

Boa Morte made 296 appearances in the Premier League, at least 60 more than any other player from Portugal.

He was not the most prolific of forwards, scoring just 29 times, but he did lay on plenty of goals for his teammates – 35, to be exact.

Given the sides he played for mostly found themselves towards the bottom of the table, it is hardly surprising that he lost more games than he won in the division. He also had some disciplinary issues, racking up 63 yellow cards and six reds.
