Both Massimiliano Allegri and Mikel Arteta named relatively strong starting line-ups for the pre-season friendly in Asia.

The Rossoneri were without key players in Youssouf Fofana, Luka Modric and Santiago Gimenez, but lined up with an attacking pairing of Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic instead, with summer signing Samuele Ricci starting in midfield alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah.

Italy international Riccardo Calafiori was among the starters for Arsenal, as were stars William Saliba, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri.

It was a single, second-half goal from the aforementioned Saka that gave Arsenal a 1-0 win at the National Stadium in Singapore.

Still, despite Arsenal claiming the honours after 90 minutes, the game went on to a penalty shoot-out anyway, which ended in a 6-5 victory for Allegri’s side.

20-year-old goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani saved three of the nine penalties that Arsenal took, making saves against Martin Odegaard, Reiss Nelson and Jakub Kiwior, while 15-year-old Marli Salmon hit his effort off target.
