Lazio are highly likely to secure a European spot on the final day of the season, but it remains to be seen which competition they’ll qualify for.
First, it should be noted that the clubs that finish in the Top Four will directly gain access to the Champions League. Napoli, Inter Milan and Atalanta have already booked their spots on the podium. Afterwards, the team that finishes 5th will join Coppa Italia winners Bologna in the Europa League, while 6th place yields a spot in the Conference League.
At the moment, Juventus are leading the race for 4th place with 67 points, while Roma (66) and Lazio (65) are breathing down their neck. Therefore, the Bianconeri only need a win over Venezia on the final day of the season to secure their place, while Roma will be looking to beat Torino while hoping to pounce on a slip from the Old Lady.
As for Lazio, qualifying for the Champions requires a mini miracle. Marco Baroni’s men must beat Lecce and hope that Juventus suffer a defeat in Venice and Roma doesn’t win in Turin. It should be noted that the Biancocelesti have a disadvantage in the head-to-head clashes against both of their rivals in case they finish level on points.
On the other hand, the Europa League represents a more plausible target for Lazio, but their fate is also not in their own hands. The Aquile must also beat Lecce in this case and hope that either Roma drop points against Torino or Juventus lose to Venezia.
Finally, qualifying for the Conference League appears to be the most likely scenario for Lazio, especially wth the club heading to the final day in 6th place. The capital side only needs a draw to ward off competition from Fiorentina who are currently three points behind.
Even if the Aquile suffer a defeat against Lecce, they would also maintain their Europa League spot if the Viola fail to beat Udinese.
As for Bologna, they can also overtake Lazio in the table, as they’re also three points adrift, but that wouldn’t change anything in the equation, as the Emilians have already secured a place in the Europa League thanks to their Coppa Italia triumph.
