Norwich City are battling to win promotion to the Premier League, and their outstanding form in 2024 means they are a team with real momentum right now.
It remains to be seen whether they can last the distance, but boss David Wagner deserves huge credit for the way he has got the side performing.
However, there’s no denying that the Canaries do have some real quality in their squad, and that’s reflected in the squad valuation given by Transfermarkt.
Whilst the individual figures will be open to debate, they have Norwich’s squad listed at £69.75m.
Unsurprisingly, the highest-rated player is Gabriel Sara, who has a value of £16m, with Josh Sargent coming in at £12m and Jon Rowe third on the list at £7m.
As mentioned, Norwich fans would certainly debate those figures, and if the trio were to leave in the summer window then they would expect to command much higher sums than those.
Nevertheless, it proves that there is a lot of talent within the Norwich squad, and the three players have been very influential in the current campaign, and they will hope to play a key role over the final few months to help the promotion bid.
The valuation puts Norwich City at 7th in the table in terms of the most valuable squads in the league.
So, it could be argued that the Norfolk outfit are only where they should be in the table, although the table does illustrate how a gap has emerged in the league.
The three relegated sides have squads worth considerably more than the rest of the division, which includes being worth way more than double Norwich’s.
With the gap from third to fourth being bigger than fourth to 24th, it demonstrates that Leeds, Leicester and Southampton are real powerhouses at this level, so it’s no surprise they all have a real chance of winning promotion straight back to the top-flight.
Even though the Canaries’ fans won’t want to hear it, their bitter rivals Ipswich are proof that you can buck the trend, as they sit second in the table despite being mid-table on this list. Interestingly, they are £19.25m lower than Norwich, but they are undoubtedly the biggest overachievers in the Championship this season.
The big worry for Norwich fans is the future of the three players mentioned above as the highest value members of the squad.
Gabriel Sara has been outstanding in midfield since he arrived, whilst Jon Rowe’s brilliant form prior to his injury had made him one of the brightest prospects in the league, which had put him on the radar of clubs higher up.
Josh Sargent is another who has had bad luck on the injury front, but he has shown when he is fit that he can be a top player, and his form this season has prompted talk that Brentford could look to sign the USA international.
Failure to win promotion means transfer talk around the trio will intensify, so it could be an interesting summer ahead if Norwich are forced to cash in and rebuild.
