Manchester City have one of the most prominent social media presences across various platforms in world football, new data has revealed.

The recent four-in-a-row Premier League champions have seen their levels of success taken to new heights under Pep Guardiola since the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager took on the reigns of head coach at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.

Following on from Premier League title triumphs and domestic cup glories secured under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini, it was Guardiola who established a new-found level of dominance in English football and recorded European glory.

There has also been a significant influx of superstar names driving the club forwards to new heights over the course of the last decade, further attracting new audiences and supporters from all over the world.

Erling Haaland is arguably Manchester City’s most prominent star while other names have national support from their home country, including the likes of Abdukodir Khusanov in Uzbekistan and Rayan Ait-Nouri in Algeria.

And it appears as though the mixture of a star-studded squad with the on-field glories have taken Manchester City to never-before-seen heights internally when it comes to their presence online across the globe.

As revealed in data collated by CIES Football Observatory, Manchester City have the fifth-largest social media following among global football clubs combined across the five of the largest-known platforms in the world.

Combining their followings across X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, Manchester City boast a combined following of approximately 179.5 million followers – making them the second-most followed club in England.

Spain’s two largest clubs dominate the rankings and significantly exceed third-placed Manchester United, with Real Madrid boasting 473.7 million followers across platforms to make them the most-followed club in the world, following by Barcelona with 427.4 million.

The aforementioned Old Trafford club have amassed a cross-social following of around 233.6 million, followed by Paris Saint-Germain’s 199.4 million, and Manchester City in fifth-position.

The rest of the top-10 sees Juventus in 6th with 174.9 million, Liverpool in 7th with 166.7 million, Chelsea in 8th with 152.9 million, Bayern Munich in 9th with 149.1 million, and Arsenal in 10th with 114.1 million followers.

Further boosting Manchester City’s social media presence this summer will be the FIFA Club World Cup, as the United States-hosted competition promises to broadcast its action globally through free-to-air means.

Pep Guardiola and his players – added to by Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli this summer – will take on Wydad AC, Al Ain, and Juventus in their group stage campaign starting Wednesday evening.
