Juventus and Aston Villa are in talks for Douglas Luiz, and Thiago Motta already has a clear idea of how to deploy the Brazilian midfielder if he joins the Old Lady.

Multiple sources in Italy claim Juventus and Aston Villa are working on a swap deal involving Douglas Luiz and McKennie, although the parties involved in the negotiations have yet to reach an agreement.

Gazzetta has reported that Douglas Luiz is open to joining Juventus, so the Bianconeri are in talks with his agent and Aston Villa, who are interested in McKennie.

The American midfielder is expected to leave Turin this summer having failed to reach an agreement to extend his contract beyond 2025.

So, where would Douglas Luiz play at Juventus, if he signs for the Bianconeri?

Juventus are set to appoint Thiago Motta as their new coach. The ex-Italy coach usually adopts a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. He also picked a 4-1-4-1 system at Bologna this season, but his tactics are pretty fluid and typically require at least one physically imposing midfielder to keep the team balanced.

Gazzetta confirms that Douglas Luiz would be one of the two holding midfielders and would partner Adrien Rabiot if the Frenchman signs a contract extension beyond June.

In this case, Douglas Luiz would push Manuel Locatelli to the bench, but if Rabiot leaves, then the Brazilian will partner with the Italian midfielder in the middle of the park.

There would still be room for Juventus’ primary target in midfield, Teun Koopmeiners. The Dutch midfielder can play as an attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 formation or a 4-1-4-1 system or as a central midfielder in a 4-3-3 line-up.

Don’t forget about Nicolò Fagioli which will give Motta an extra option in the middle of the park.

The Italy international is an ideal playmaker in a 4-3-3 system, where he can join both Douglas Luiz and Koopmeiners, provided they move to Turin this summer.
