With the 2022 World Cup fast approaching, the 2022/23 Nations League group stages are coming to a close.

Competing nations will play their sixth and final group stage fixture in the final international break before the Qatar World Cup kicks off in November.

And while the fate of some has already been decided, there is still plenty to play for in the third edition of the international competition, with teams vying to make the mini-tournament in 2023.

England have already learned their future ahead of their final group stage fixture against Germany. Defeat to Italy on matchday five ensured they would be relegated to League B for the 2024/25 competition, following a miserable campaign that has seen them fail to pick up a win thus far.

So, with proceedings rearing their head as the curtain falls on the group stages, 90min have put together a cheat sheet of everything you need to know ahead of the 2022/23 Nations League finals.

Where are the 2022/23 Nations League finals being held?

With the finalists still to be confirmed, the host nation for the finals is yet to be determined.

One of the four nations who make the mini-tournament in June 2023 will be selected as the hosts for the finals, typically making use of two stadiums to host semi-finals, a third place play-off and a final.

Chosen as hosts in 2019, Portugal went on to win the inaugural tournament in their home country, seeing off Switzerland and the Netherlands to become the first team to lift the trophy.

However, they failed to qualify for the finals in 2020/21 and surrendered their crown as a result, with France going all the way and winning the tournament in Italy.

Which teams will go to the 2022/23 Nations League finals?

The four group winners from League A of the Nations League will battle it out in the finals, which are set to take place from 14 to 18 June 2023.

Currently, none of the four groups have definitive winners, making for an incredibly intriguing matchday six with all to play for in terms of trying to make the finals.

France cannot finish top in Group 1, thus one of Croatia and Denmark will make the finals next summer. In Group 2, Portugal and Spain will meet on 27 September to determine who will clinch first place, with the 2019 winners currently sitting top.

Hungary have proven the surprise package in Group 3, prevailing in what many would've considered a 'group of death' and sitting top heading into the final matchday. England's relegation has been confirmed, but Italy could still clinch top spot and advance should they beat the Hungarians.

Down in Group 4, Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side have all but qualified for the finals, but must first dispatch of Belgium in their final group stage fixture to ensure they progress.
