FLW's Notts County fan pundit has given his verdict on Alassana Jatta's future with the club
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Alassana Jatta’s future at Notts County has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer.
It was exclusively revealed by FLW earlier in the transfer market that Bolton Wanderers are interested in the forward.
Jatta featured 39 times in League Two last season, contributing 19 goals and four assists, as the team earned a sixth-place finish, earning them a shot at promotion through the play-offs, which they were unable to achieve amid the striker's ill-discipline.
The 26-year-old has not been training with the Magpies during their pre-season camp in Germany after he didn’t obtain a visa.
When asked whether Jatta will stay or go, FLW’s Notts County fan pundit Gareth Parr claimed that he’s more likely to remain with the League Two side at this stage.
However, he believes that the club would be open to a sale if the right offer comes in before the market shuts.
“I’d like to see him stay,” Parr told Football League World.
“Gut feeling is it’ll come down again, as I’ve said before, to if someone comes in and offers a value that the owners have or more than have him labelled with.
“Then he’ll go.
“A bit like Alex Bass did, an offer too good to refuse.
“We’re still quite short on strikers, so I think there will need to be quick movement on bringing somebody else in, should he go.
“But, having watched some of the training sessions, and having watched some of the B-team game when he played recently, while the rest of the team was in Germany, he was definitely still hungry to play for Notts.
“Rumours about whether he’s had his eyes turned to other clubs that are potentially making offers I think is as much propaganda by his agent than anything else.
“When I saw him recently, he seemed quite happy and was working hard.
“So, my gut feeling is he’ll stay.”
Notts County will begin their League Two campaign on Saturday with an away trip to face Newport County.
It’s no surprise that Jatta drew some attention this summer after the impressive campaign he had with Notts County.
But they’ve been able to hold onto him this far, so they should be a little optimistic that he will stay beyond 1 September.
Given his goal-scoring record, and the loss of David McGoldrick (above), the Magpies will need to hold onto him if they’re to fight for promotion.
Martin Paterson’s side will need someone capable of consistently finding the back of the net, and Jatta has proven that he can do that.
