South Korean journalist Sungmo Lee has shared when Heung-min Son will return to Tottenham Hotspur after his recent Asian Cup exit.

Heung-min Son suffered heartbreak on Tuesday as South Korea crashed out of the Asian Cup after a 2-0 defeat to Jordan in the semi-final.

The 31-year-old captained his country at this year’s tournament and netted three goals and provided one assist in six games.

His display against the quarter-finals was the pick of the bunch as he bagged a brilliant free-kick in extra time to secure a 2-1 win.

But after crashing out of the tournament on Tuesday evening, Son will return to north London imminently.

Son set to return to Tottenham ‘right away’

Sungmo Lee took to X on Wednesday morning and shared an update on Son’s return to Spurs.

The South Korean journalist claims that Son, along with other Premier League stars, will return to England ‘right away’.

He wrote: “Klinsmann will return to South Korea with the squad on 8th and have an interview with Korean media at the airport.

“Son Heung-min, Hwang Hee-chan, Kim Min-jae, Lee Kang-in will come back to their clubs right away instead of coming back to South Korea and then return to Europe.”

It will be a huge boost for Spurs to have their skipper back a few days ahead of schedule. Had South Korea won the semi-final, Son would have been in action once again on Saturday night.

You have to sympathise with our skipper though after he looked visibly distraught following South Korea’s exit.

Whether or not Son will be available for this weekend’s clash against Brighton remains to be seen.

The forward played every single minute at the Asian Cup, with two of the knockout games heading to extra time.

Son may benefit from a rest and the arrival of Timo Werner could allow the skipper to take the weekend off.

He will undoubtedly be exhausted after a testing month so we will have to wait for further updates on the striker from Ange Postecoglou.
