DRAW Format

Pep Guardiola’s men go into the first knockout stage as Group A winners, meaning we are one of eight seeded teams in the draw.

It means City are guaranteed to play the first leg of our last-16 tie away from home, before welcoming our opponent back to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg.

As per the Champions League draw rules, we can’t be drawn against another team from England, nor anyone that we previously faced in Group A.

This rules out the possibility of a last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain or, should they finish runners up, current holders Chelsea.

When are the last-16 ties?

The first legs are scheduled for one of Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 of February, while the second legs will take place on one of Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 March.

Furthermore, this season’s competition will be the first without the away goals rule. This means that ties finishing level after 180 minutes will be settled by 30 minutes of extra time and, if needed, a penalty shootout regardless of the number of away goals scored.

Should City progress, then the draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final take place on Friday 18 March.
