Ezgjan Alioski could be crucial in luring Elif Elmas to Leeds United this summer.
That is according to ex-Whites forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Athletic reported on 9th June that Leeds are interested in the Napoli midfielder.
Elmas, whose contract expires in 2025, featured 44 times for the Serie A giants in 2020-21 and is rated highly in Naples and scouting departments across Europe.
The 21-year-old is currently on international duty with North Macedonia at the Euros alongside Leeds’ Alioski whose Leeds deal expires at the end of the month.
But Whelan thinks that the auxiliary left-back could be pivotal in selling a Leeds move to Elmas.
He told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “That relationship is something Leeds United might be thinking about.
“If they do go in for him then he’s got a player that he already knows. There’s that camaraderie.
“I’m sure Alioski is doing his utmost to give them some information about the player and tell them how good a player he is and about his character.
“He’ll probably tell them what he’s like in the dressing room as well because it’s vitally important that you get the right mix of characters.
“Take nothing away from North Macedonia, they are having a fantastic time. They are in a major tournament and look how far they’ve come.
“If he brings a little bit more quality in that midfield area then absolutely bring him in, why not?”
