According to reports in Georgia and Italy, Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could become a Barcelona transfer target again now that Xavi has confirmed he will be staying on in Catalonia beyond the end of the 2023-24 season.
According to information from the Georgian edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kvaratskhelia’s agent is expected in Italy next week.
Among his most important pieces of business is a meeting with Partenopei chief Aurelio De Laurentiis to discuss Kvaratskhelia’s future, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Kvaratskhelia is currently under contract until the summer of 2027, however, he is still on the same contract that he signed when he joined Napoli from Dinamo Batumi in the summer of 2022.
He currently takes home an annual salary of around €1.5m, which places him among the lowest earners of Napoli’s senior squad.
As per TMW, there had been internal discussions about an extension following Kvaratskhelia’s MVP season in 2022-23, but talks never really progressed.
Thursday’s reports suggest that Xavi is a huge admirer of Kvaratskhelia’s, and now that the 2010 World Cup winner is staying put in the Barca dugout, the Napoli creator-in-chief could potentially receive an offer from Catalonia in the future.
